It has been shown that employees working within a work space with a comfortable temperature are more motivated and productive than those in a lesser controlled environment. The temperature can also have a large impact on the mental wellbeing of employees, most in part to the desire to work within the office environment based on comfort levels.
Careful space planning can provide an optimal air flow, temperature control and coverage over any office or commercial space.
The significance of planning your air conditioning and ventilation around your employee desking, breakout spaces, and kitchenettes cannot be overstated, as haphazardly installing air conditioning units may result in inconsistent temperatures, leaving some members cold and others comfortable. This is especially true in areas with large windows, where natural heat is more intense.
Employer Obligation
The workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) regulations 1992 states that it is a legal obligation for an employer to provide a ‘reasonable’ temperate in the workplace (known as thermal comfort levels), however this is a flexible requirement that can be determined by the employer.

Types of Commercial Air Conditioning Systems
01. Single Split Systems.
Single Split AC systems are built to cool individual rooms, making them perfect for small commercial buildings such as cafes, small retail sapces or small offices require individual rooms cooling or heating.
This system is generally the cheapest option for small premises, however each indoor unit will require their own outdoor unit, accumilating to more outdoor space being reuqired and therefore is not recommended for medium to large interiors.
These units are faster and easier to install, and each unit is self contained, therefore if one breaks down the rest are not effected.
02. Multi Split Systems.
Multi Split AC Systems utilise a single larger outdoor unit to operate multiple indoor units, saving outdoor space in comparission to multiple single split systems. These are more suited to large office interiors, large retail spaces and hospitality spaces.
The smaller footprint of the outdoor unit allows you to maintain the exterior aesthetic of the building and can connect to multiple unit types.
Multi split Air Con units are what we would typically install in our larger projects.
03. VRF or VRV Systems
Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) or Variable Refrigerant Volume (VRV) systems utilise refrigerant to cool and warm their environments. These systems are highly customisable and are ideal for medium to large installations, being able to heat and cool rooms independently.
VRF systems are extremely quiet, reducing ambient noise of both the indoor and outdoor units.
An indoor control unit can operate and customise the heat output of an AC unit without changing the conditions of other units on the same system.
