01. Bright, Open-plan Reception

The ground floor of Jisc features a beautiful open-plan reception and breakout area, as well as two bespoke meeting spaces with sleek concrete tube arches. The building’s large open windows provide ample light throughout the space while the new glass partitions help to spread the natural light even into the enclosed spaces.

We adorned the reception with a one-of-a-kind, hanging light solution commissioned to impart additional colour into the building entrance.

03. Stand-out First Floor

---

A unique meeting room, overlooking reception, with natural light and a custom-built, quirky floppy disc encased meeting table; stunning multimedia booths differentiated by Crittall style glass partitions; agile working places and an open break-out and meeting room area make the first floor an exciting place to work.

The first floor has a yellow aesthetic, with a custom yellow wraparound tea-point and an open breakout area that gives employees a place to unwind during downtime while also encouraging clients to meet informally. It also contains a room inspired by a Victorian library, fusing a traditional decorative piece with the digital age.

04. Timeless and Nostalgic Second Floor

A striking wrap-around blue innovative tea-point, with a minimalist countertop island, sits alongside an open lounge and hybrid working space. A large corner storage wall and office locker system wraps around from the tea point leading to the new Crittall style glass enclosed office and meeting spaces.

Unique Apple Mac feature lights hang over a round table meeting space serving as a key element of this level, providing a timeless and nostalgic aesthetic that embodies the history of technology.

One of the distinctive spaces of the second floor is the digital teaching room. Surrounded by monitors and cameras, one of Jisc’s tutors stands inside an orange circle where they perform their lesson. Within the circle, anyone in the online call or conference will see the mentor.

05. Spacious Third Floor

Proici opened the ceiling space of the building to create a bespoke wooden plank ceiling for the third floor. Keeping the classic features, but enhancing the space and conveying a sense of spaciousness perfectly fitted the brief.

While the large meeting room, with the bespoke circuit board ceiling feature, and the movable wall that allows it to be quickly and easily transformed into two spaces; as well as the ultra-wide feature monitor wall in the break-out area that displays inspiring tech-based art and homages to the technology industry, matched the requirement to make this a tech-savvy space.

06.Themed Collaborative Spaces

We collaborated closely with Jisc to design these one-of-a-kind “era” oriented spaces, which included a 70s tech-themed room, with references to Apple and the stop motion character Morph; an 80s space, with Wallace and Gromit-themed artworks; a Nintendo-themed 90s space to commemorate the emergence of gaming technology and a “noughties” futuristic themed meeting space.

07. Striking Cubicles

Fresh, colour-infused toilet and WC facilities are spread across each floor, designed to create a unique sanitary environment. These striking designs span across both standard WC and BS8300 compatible toilet facilities.

New BS8300 compliant shower facilities were installed on the first floor to accompany the newly installed gym space.

08. Wellness Facilities – Office Gym

Like many of our clients, Jisc wanted a gym space to provide staff with advantages ranging from health improvements to mental well-being. Proici designed and built a small gym on the first floor with access to the newly constructed shower space.

09. Modern and Environmental Exterior

---

Proici remodeled the five-story building’s façade, linking the wide, front-facing windows to create a seamless window that extends from the first to the third floors. Similarly, we increased the height of the windows above the reception door to fit the rest of the building’s aesthetic.

We mounted a series of solar panels on the building roof to help Jisc contribute to their green policy by providing a constant input of renewable, eco-friendly power to the office spaces.

Jisc also supports environmentally friendly modes of transportation such as cycling, so cycle stores were built to allow for safe bicycle storage, as well as a fast dryer inside the building to quickly dry any biker’s garments.

10. Vibrant Stairwell

The building stairwell was not overlooked and the exciting design now matches the rest of the building with bursts of vibrant magenta, including each floor number slanted on the white walls.
